Devon Marlink

Judging: Minor Crew & Major Chor Division

MO: Where are you from?

DM: All over Northern California, but Sacramento originally.

MO: What’s your dance style background?

DM: Hip Hop, Bboy, Locking, House, Popping.

MO: Where have we seen you? Where has your dance journey and career taken you?

DM: Music videos and commercials for J-Lo, A-Teens, Heineken, Honda, Calvin Klein; and movies and TV shows such as Austin Powers, Kickin It Old School, Victorious, and America’s Got Talent.

MO: Have you ever been a Maxt Out competitor?

DM: No, but I have been involved as a performer and/or judge at every Maxt Out (going back all the way since before Maxt Out was a competition)

MO: What’s your judging style?

DM: I do tend to be a harder judge than most (and my scores tend to be on the lower end), but I try to leave as many comments on score sheets as time permits. I also am more than willing to provide feedback to coaches and choreographers after events, because I want to help teams and crews improve. I spend most of my year judging events worldwide, so see crews and dancers of all levels from all sorts of backgrounds, and this impacts my viewpoint heavily.

MO: What are you looking for in the Maxt Out dance competitors?

DM: I look for dancers who know how to blend a strong technical foundation with a unique interpretation of the music — and an overall love for putting on a great show for the audience!
